As the nation’s premier movie-theater subscription service, MoviePass provides film enthusiasts the ability to attend unlimited movies.
To design the next generation of MoviePass by conducting a research and development effort to understand the users behaviors while using the app, evaluate the current moviepass moviegoing experience, and how we can innovate the next iteration of the moviepass app to not only meet current business and user needs but also to improve the end to end moviegoer experience.
BMI set out to focus on understanding the moviegoer behavior. We conducted ethnographic research to understand the end to end movie-going experience, and to understand how we can innovate the next iteration of the Moviepass app (Q4 2017) not only to meet current business and user needs but to improve the overall experience. The result was an innovated, dynamic, fully designed prototype showcasing the results we learned.
Based users preference and history, homescreen adapts to show featured films as well as films based on the movies they’ve watched or liked. Fully custom tailored to the users moviegoing experience.

Without having to leave to the website, users will quickly see how MoviePass works, see the theaters that accept MoviePass near their current location, and an easy to view plan selection layout.
During the onboarding process, users are prompted a few questions to help customize the moviegoer experience. Based on their selection, users will be matched with movies they will likely love as well as theaters that match their expectations.
